So Many Ways To Enjoy Canada’s 150th – What Will You Do?
We are so fortunate to be living in a place that gives us so much. Things that should never be taken for granted. What better time to experience them than right now? There are so many ways you and your family can get involved in the cross-country celebrations, from exploring the incredible and diverse landscape that stretches from coast to coast to attending one of the many local community events.
Spend a few days discovering the wonders of nature. There’s an endless variety of unique and interesting things to see and do: from BC’s majestic rainforests to the east coast’s high tides on the Bay of Fundy, there’s something to experience in every province. Plan your own Canadian adventure or, if you’re looking for some ideas, get started here. We also believe in the importance of community. We’re never too busy to lend a helping hand and we’re always up for a good reason to get together with family and friends. If you’re looking for a local community project or event to take in, you’ve got plenty of choice. There are literally hundreds of local activities taking place across Canada. You can find out more here. If you’d like to showcase your own red, white (and blue) birthday pride, consider hosting a celebratory party in your backyard, complete with decorations, food and activities.
- Set the stage with colourful tablecloths, napkins, glassware and cutlery.
- For centerpiece ideas, add flowers (like carnations or daisies) to coloured water or fill mason jars with red hearts, white peppermints and blue jelly beans.
- Don’t forget the flag as well as balloons, streamers and flameless candles.
- To make it truly patriotic, dig up or borrow some items that are unique to your country and give them a temporary place of honour out on the deck or in the yard. (For diehard Canucks, we’d be looking for things like a hockey stick, plaid blanket, moose figure or pair of paddles.)
- To keep the little ones entertained, buy some red, white and blue ribbon wands and let them dance to hits from homegrown talent. Or make simple wreaths using paper plates, crayons and red and blue tissue paper.
When it comes to food, there’s no limit to what you can cook up. From meats to salads, snacks to desserts, the menu is wide open and your grill can handle pretty much anything you put on it. To tempt your family’s or your guests’ taste buds, try our Maple Butter Glazed Pork Chops made with maple syrup – a favorite Canadian condiment found in pantries across the country. Happy 150th to all Canadians from everyone at Crown Verity!
